Protect South Australia’s coastal jetties
Jetties are part of South Australia’s coastal life. They support tourism, strengthen local businesses and create places where communities gather, fish and connect with the water.
Many jetties are ageing and costly to maintain. Councils manage many of these structures but cannot carry the growing cost alone. Without stronger state investment, some jetties risk falling into disrepair or closing.
The Local Government Association (LGA) of South Australia are advocating for the state government to increase funding and work with councils to protect these important community assets.
To support this, they are calling for the state government to commit to an:
- 80/20 funding partnership, with the state government contributing 80 percent and local government 20 percent
- increase in state jetty funding from $5 million to $10 million per year.
A stronger funding partnership will help councils keep jetties safe, open and accessible for communities and visitors.

South Australians value their jetties. They're places where memories are made, visitors gather and communities connect with the coast. Without adequate funding, some jetties may face closure or decline.
Add your name to the pledge and show the state government that South Australians want their jetties protected for future generations.
Information about how to join the pledge can be found on the LGA Website.
