Elliston Esplanade Integrated Coastal Foreshore Management Plan – Community Consultation (Staged Engagement and Final Exhibition)

The District Council of Elliston has undertaken a staged community consultation process to support the development and adoption of the Elliston Esplanade Integrated Coastal Foreshore Management Plan.

Previous Consultation

Initial community consultation was undertaken between November 2025 and February 2026, including a public information session and written submissions. This process is documented on Council’s website and informed the development of the revised Elliston Esplanade Integrated Costal Foreshore Management Plan.

Feedback from this phase identified clear community priorities, including:

  • Stormwater management and erosion control
  • Dune stabilisation and vegetation protection
  • Maintaining the existing road alignment without expansion
  • Preference for low-impact, nature-based solutions
  • Sensitivity to perceived overdevelopment of the foreshore

This feedback directly informed the refinement of the Plan.

Key Messages to the Community

The consultation material emphasised that the revised Plan:

  • Responds directly to issues raised during earlier consultation
  • Prioritises stormwater, erosion, and dune management
  • Does not propose road widening or expansion
  • Focuses on staged, low-impact and adaptable works
  • Aligns with the Coastal Hazard Adaptation Plan (CHAP)
  • Avoids overinvestment in infrastructure within the coastal hazard zone

A final round of consultation is being undertaken to present the revised Plan and provide the community with an opportunity to review and comment prior to Council endorsement.

Purpose of Final Consultation

The purpose of this consultation phase was to:

  • Present the updated Plan reflecting earlier community feedback
  • Confirm that key issues raised have been addressed
  • Provide an opportunity for final submissions prior to adoption
  • Ensure transparency and procedural fairness in decision-making
