Draft Community Engagement Charter Consultation

> Please be advised that the public consultation period has now closed, having concluded at 5:00pm on Friday, 12 June 2026 <

The District Council of Elliston is seeking community feedback on its Draft Community Engagement Charter [PDF Link].

This charter helps guide how Council communicates and engages with our community when making decisions that may affect residents, businesses, landowners and visitors across the District.

Good community engagement helps Council make informed decisions that reflect local knowledge, priorities and community needs. It also helps ensure our decision making processes remain open, transparent and accessible.

The draft charter has been updated to reflect recent legislative changes and the introduction of the South Australian Community Engagement Charter.

About the Charter

The Draft Community Engagement Charter outlines how Council will undertake public consultation and community engagement across a range of Council decisions, activities and projects.

The Charter aims to support:

  • Open and transparent decision making
  • Meaningful opportunities for community participation
  • Clear and accessible information sharing
  • Engagement methods that are appropriate and practical
  • Constructive conversations between Council and the community
  • Better decision making through community feedback

The charter also outlines the minimum consultation requirements Council must meet for matters such as Annual Business Plans, rating policies, strategic planning and other significant Council decisions.

Why Your Feedback Matters

Community feedback helps Council understand what is important to our community and how people would like to be engaged on future Council decisions and projects.

Council welcomes constructive feedback to help ensure the charter reflects the needs and expectations of our District and supports meaningful opportunities for community participation into the future.

All feedback received during the consultation period will be considered by Council prior to adoption of the charter.
